If thats a viable option, i would totally consider it.

The Greek version Varvara sounds beautiful.

It would be an amazing name for your baby especially with the history of honoring your mom. An added benefit is that it's also easy to pronounce (I'm assuming similar to the English pronunciation of Barbara?) You could also use nn Vera/Vara when she's little.

+1 for Varvara

Go for it, OP!

I love it! So unusual for today. Bunny or Betsy is adorable!

My mom is Barbara (she's in her 70s). I'm certain there will be a trend in the next few years for names like Barbara, Carol, Donna, Pamela, Deborah, etc. You'll be ahead of your time!

I really like it. There are always a few "outliers" in any class, those truly unique names that go against trends. Do it!

I like the Greek pronunciation of Varvara. Maybe you could use the nn Vera? It's such a cute name, and it would add a nice layer to your name story.

I'm not hispanic but love Barbie as a nn for Barbara.

Never been a fan of the name, but it's been absolutely ruined for me ever since my brother's other woman/live-in girlfriend/baby momma came onto the scene.

As far as nicknames... Again, don't really care for any of them. Not that I recommend it, but I recall a childhood friend whose mom was Barbara and went by Bunny.
