Sounds like your problem is with OP, who said in the first post they'd like to find something zoned for Madison. There is no reason to settle for Marshall, which is OK but not in the same league, if they can afford to spend $900K. She just needs to keep looking.

It depends what your requirements are...900K should be a 30-40 yo colonial.

700K would be like my house, a 4 br. 2000 sq foot 1965 split.

The problem is, right now, inventory is very limited. Below 600K, the houses are sold as teardowns. So, the decent houses are starting at 600K.

And the new construction is art least 1.2 mil....now, I see some houses for sale; but they are going fast. Here is a listed house:

Disagree. If I can afford Langley, McLean or Madison, I'm not going to look in the Marshall district. Don't particularly want IB, and the higher number of low-income kids at Marshall is just a fact, not really a plus (if diversity is so great, why aren't the Marshall folks sending their kids to Falls Church instead)?

Think we'll have to agree to disagree on this point. We like IB and see positives in both racial AND socio-economic diversity. If our kids decide against IB we would send them to Falls Church with no qualms.

There are eight IB high schools in the county and only one - Robinson - is less diverse than Marshall. I'm just not buying your pitch that greater diversity at Marshall, relative to Madison, was really a plus for you.

There's ample reason to decide Madison is a stronger school, with a stronger school community, than Marshall and, with a $900K budget and some patience, OP ought to be able to find a nice home in the Madison district.
