How old is your dh, Op? We tried for 6 months when I was 33 and nothing. DH is 6 years older. DH went for a sperm analysis and he had very, very low count/motility. If you are worried, have your DH see a urologist. Also, get a hold of "A Inpatient Woman's Guide to Getting Pregnant." It is an awesome book!

4 months at age 41, delivered at healthy baby boy at 40 weeks...I consider myself very lucky and will not be tempting fate to try for another.

I got pregnant 'accidentally' at 38 and had a healthy baby. I didn't think I could conceive so I wasn't using BC. I had written pregnancy off, because of health issues. I know women who got pregnant in their 40's by 'accident'. So it goes to show to never give up hope.

Or perhaps older women are more conscious about the time crunch so they make every effort to track their cycles/use a fertility monitor and therefore know exactly when to have sex in order to get pregnant.

But statistically 50 plus percent of embryos are abnormal at that age

Yes -- getting pregnant on the first or second try doesn't always mean a successful pregnancy. I am 36 and have been pregnant 3 times in the past year, all resulting in miscarriages (chromosome abnormality confirmed each time). So getting conceiving isn't always the hurdle.

First cycle at 34 and second cycle at 36, and I had just stopped nursing 2 months earlier.

1 month at 35 (miscarriage), 1 month at 36 (2 months after miscarriage), and 2 months at 39

Most of my friends have had their kids between 35 and 42 and only 2 of them needed reproductive assistance (1 had an IUI and 1 had IVF).

I think you can infer a lot from the typical guidance given to women 35 no older that if you aren't pregnant within six months of trying you should see an RE.
