Scrimmagefest is a terrific waste of time. We said no two or three times over the years (multiple kids). It's so dumb. A long drive for 20 minute scrimmages that aren't even really officiated or anything.

We give so much of our free time to this sport, willingly. But I don't feel bad about missing scrimmagefest every once in a while.

is that the CCL scrimmage fest ? There is something like 120 teams playing over two days, what other club has that kind of field space to dedicate to U9 and U10 scrimmages ?

In the scrimmagefest? There are only about 8 teams in each age group--U9 and U10-boys and girls. That's around 32. Where are you getting 120?

on the CCL website under schedule>scrimmage fest. Look at the schedules posted it lists all the teams for each age group, by my count it's 62 teams for U9 and 66 teams for U10 across two divisions boys and girls. That is why they try to get FFC to host it, it's the only club with 7 fields at one site they own.

There is no need to have girls and boys at same location.

Man are you full of great ideas. Lets pass up having the event at one of the best facilities on the east coast and instead have it at several crap middle schools field near your house. That makes sense.

Actually, that does make sense. This is a bunch of meaningless ulittle scrimmages, not Jeff Cup.

Go into Team Snap, and under availability Click "No". Problem solved.

not OP, but that's just stupid
a family on our team did that; no one wanted to drive down there . . . but u do it anyway, right?
Location should change next year is what we were told.

It is a scrimmage fest, who cares. If it is to far to go then don't go. They are u-littles. None of it matters anyway. It is stupid to drive more than a 30 minutes to anything travel soccer related anyway.

Especially since the kids will be in a tournament the following weekend as well. I applaud the parents with the balls to click 'no'.

I find Loudoun, Arlington, McLean very similar. Impersonal. Factory. Nepotism. Top-down organizations that cater to the loudest mouths and biggest spenders. They tend to just select athletes--big, fast, ball-booters. None of them play beautiful soccer or attempt possession. I don't think any of them are great at developing young players. Poor Braddock Road was in there and these people would gloat and make fun of the big wins they had over them at the younger age groups.

My beef isn't necessarily the league per se. It's that the league claims to be development, but it was really for coach convenience.

And any league game 3-4 hour drive is ridiculous.

I totally disagree re-McLean. Smaller club comparatively and have found them to have a very personal approach and focus on technical aspects (coach does not allow punting from goalie as example). Could not be happier with the club and I have been at a few due to moves. Lots of small kids on top teams based on technical/foot skills. So no-not a cluster. And Ccl has been great for our family. Good competition but dont have to waste the whole weekend and drag siblings on road trip for 2 games when we can knock out two games locally and still have the rest of the weekend for other things... just my two cents

Do you have sons or daughters? ECNL may be ok, but the younger girls have big problems with development, infighting, and a technical Director that can't control coaches. Girls are leaving.

DD quit that coach and left the building....not fun.
...where was this "very personal approach"???

I think the problem continues to be the turnover at the lower ages and the board is clueless or does not care. First with the turnover at the boys U12 da, and now with girls. A new girls T.D. comes in 2 years ago and has no idea about the coaching culture she is walking into, so she gets manipulated by coaches with their own agendas. Coaches get away with things that parents at any other club would not tolerate. Easier for T.D. to leave as fast as she can instead of dealing with the mess created on her watch. Enter new T.D. and nothing changes, girls leave in the meantime.

Thank you MYS Board Members.

If Drake is not on the payroll of McLean Youth Soccer as of May 20, 2017, then where does the buck stop?

Are you sure the site is up to date?

Not that this board is always right, but I thought more than one person talked about her leaving for USSF as common knowledge.

That's what she announced to her team from what we heard. Other coaches helped her with tryouts since she wouldn't be coaching herself.

True, McLean was stupid to have late tryouts this year. They're going to be surprised.

is that why d. drake is heading for the exits?

she is no longer coaching any teams next year

the turnover continues........

Doesn't she have a new job with USSF?

Who CARES -- How About She Do Her Current Job!

How about she does her full-time job with USSF that will prevent her from having another job in McLean? (Or that's what was said several pages ago on the main thread.)
