Why are you so concerned about others? How about you teach your children about budgeting, limits and not be so entitled when it comes to finances? I can't figure out what you are spending your money on, but if it is your mortgage so you can live outside your means, you might want to rethink that plan.

I used to feel like you in NW DC on a similar income with 3 kids. So I went back to work.
Now I'm much happier (less time to work about crap like this) and we have more disposable income than we need.

Actually, studies show that money only buys happiness to a point, and past that, more money doesn't matter.

I know people in your same situation & they also belong to Chevy Chase as well. The problem is called being out of touch w/reality & also the social disease of living in the area. Seriously, it is time to count your blessings. Once finished, sit down w/your husband & determine your short & long term goals. It is an expensive area & you need to decide what is most important to you & your family. If traveling & being out & social is a priority then perhaps you need to look at your budget & your residence. Do what is best for your family! Good luck!

Just trying to keep up with basic mortgage, medical and food bills over here!
All our friends have more money, and I'm certainly not about to compare myself to them, unless I actually WANT to be depressed... which I don't.

I remember reading financial stories from women who screamed feeling poor despite not being.
