I think the problem here is that she doesn't work. I would guess that in most of these situations, the woman is in the weaker position than the man -- earning ability from being out of the work force and the reality of who takes primary responsibility for the children.

I agree, OP. Why people celebrate the undoing of civilization as "progress," I'll never know.

Other countries make it easier to do this.
