Bose makes excellent noise-cancelling headphones. These would solve so many problems posted in this thread.

I would rather have a screaming baby than sit near an adult who drinks too much, talks too loudly and tells how he voted for Trump! One time an adult smacked my head with their chair when they put it all the way back and another time an adult deliberately stepped on my child's foot. I still regret I was too shocked to do anything! My DD was wearing keans and it really hurt her.

The plane is not some private luxurious quiet space.

It is the same as the greyhound bus.

So, expect a bad ride; hope for a more comfortable ride.

Where are all these parents who ignore their screaming kids and do nothing to try to sooth them? They seem to exist primarily in the imaginations of childless travelers. What I see is parents usually doing their best but not always succeeding in soothing their fussy children.

And 3 ... there is no miracle cure. These children you complain about may be in the spectrum, may have countless other issues you are not aware of. And yep, they have as much right to travel as you OP

OP here....I get that people sometimes NEED to take long flights with little kids (funeral, visit family overseas, etc) but why would you take a little kid who you KNOW is awful on flights on a transatlantic flight if it's just for a vacation? Not saying that's the case here, but it blows my mind people are so inconsiderate. Your two year old won't appreciate Europe or wherever anyways.

NP, but would you rather the kid loudly read Brown Bear Brown Bear, or listen to them whine? I'll take the picture book any day.

First class doesn't help.

This summer we flew in first class. DS was 7 and he was a dream. 100% due to his tablet induced trance and I was fine with that. There was a family, also in first class with 3 boys from 6-12 (my best guess) and a baby. Those kids would not sit still. You could tell the mother was pissed and she tried to discipline the kids but to no avail. The dad was very permissive and frankly undermined the mother. The kids must have gone to bathroom 3-4 times each. I was tempted to stick my foot out in the aisle and trip them. They were clearly just being nuisances.

I get it, kids are noisy and messy and gross. But you can tell when the parent isn't doing anything to help the situation. That is what pissed me off. I am not OP BTW

No parent looks forward to flying with their child and no parent wants to hear their child read a book out loud. Parents just pray the flight goes fast and that nothing major happens. Parents just want their families to blend in and wish they can relax on a flight. They are thankful of the only thing their kid does is talk loudly. They live in fear of asses like you and love when anyone shows them a slice of kindness.

My toddler has been good on all but one flight thus far but even if he wasn't, we choose to take our child on flights because a few hours of potential stress and an not fun travel experience (that may or may not happen) is worth the days of vacation, the memories and photos we make and take and the fun the child has on the trip. They may not remember it but they still have fun. Unfortunately, just like with the metro, bus, Amtrak etc planes are open to everyone...including first class. If you don't like it fly private. No one is doing anything wrong. Remember you were a kid too and I'm sure you weren't perfect.
