Also, the Wellesley-MIT, Smith-Princeton, Barnard-Columbia programs that allow cross studying opps is very appealing.

i don't think that's the reason why they are almost totally extinct.

for some reason it is ok for women to discriminate and have their own colleges but for men not to.
PP are you male or female? The reason I ask if you are a male than you don't understand that women need supportive environment especially in the fields that are male dominated. Men tend to dominate the discussion and if women are by themselves they won't get shouted down.
Some women can go toe to toe with men, but if they are like me a bit shy than I often would stifle my thoughts and opinions because I don't like a combative environment. Being with all women gives us confidence to find themselves and not worry about "looking pretty". The chance of rape also goes down as well. Same with historically black colleges...which whites are allowed but, don't dominate. Do you object to that?
After all for many years colleges and universities were all male! Let's give us a chance ok?
But, if you are a women and think this way....than you probably are a Trump supporter and I can't say anything to change your mind.
pp you quoted- i'm a guy and bernie supporter.
I support all-womens colleges. but i also think there should be all men's colleges. i support single sex education in high school as well.
But if there was an 'elite' all men's college that was academically and historically on par with wellesley or barnard, it wouldn't last this day and age and you know it.
Well, first of all why does it matter that you are a "Bernie" supporter? Second, if the guys don't want an all male school than why blame women? Face it, most men ( not all) want to go to school with women.
It is really difficult to feel sorry for you now that you mentioned you are male and a Bernie supporter. Sorry I can't muster even the smallest violin. Must be tough but, I'm assuming you can find a safe space, dude.
do you really think that's why the ivy league became co-ed? because guys didn't want it?

I honestly think that the perception (valid or not) of women's colleges being a hotbed of lesbianism, probably plays a factor into their waning popularity.
