This is OP. Several people have suggested Helen, which I REALLY like -- maybe enough to make it a first name. Thank you all for your help!

My middle name is Hope. I really like it. I kept it rather than my maiden name because I liked that it wasn't the same as everyone else's (Lynn or Ann)

I was the one who posted Elaine as a middle name-dd#2 was supposed to be Veronica Elaine. Veronica just was too big a name when we saw her. I still think it is a great choice. We were going to call her Nikki (it was a nod to the terrible name my husband suggested when I was first pregnant-thought it was a cute nickname, though)

My daughters middle names are Dawn and Renee.

Or Jaime, for Jaime Caetano, a leader in the civil rights movement. What Rosa did for the 14th Amendment is what Jaime did for the 2nd Amendment.

I asked a rabbi for a name that meant what you are saying (DD was born with health problems amd recovered) and she was given the Hebrew name Aliza, which means joyful... the meaning for us is joyful after suffering.
