I'm not being flip. I really believe the schools will be equally fine.
Thanks. I looked at new homes in Wincopia Farms off of Gorman Road in Laurel
My hesistation is of Gorman Crossing Elem and Murray Hill Middle School.

That's nice but as a PP pointed out most of Howard county has much lower walkability score than Montgomery. And the fact remains if you are commuting to DC or its suburbs it's a shit commute.
I live outside of the area but we're still in the Sherwood cluster. In fact, we're about 10 mins away from Ho Co. My commute to Rockville is about 30 to 40 minutes. I am not complaining at all. In fact, I think it's an easy commute.
Now, I did commute to Bethesda a few times a year in my old job, and that was pure misery. But people fail to see how close Olney and Brookeville are to Rockville, and with the ICC, it's not hard to get into SS or G-burg and further up.
Ok. But you live outside of Howard county. I guess if you live on the nether regions of Montgomery and commute to a place that is still not DC then you can have an okay commute. That makes us both right and doesn't negate my point that commuting from Howard county is a dealbreaker for many.
eh
same difference
We're around the corner from Brighton Dam Road which is 1/2 Mo Co, 1/2 Howard. Where we live should be a deal breaker, too, but it's not. Dealing with a commute is a personal choice. I'd much prefer to sacrifice a bit for my kids, knowing that they're in a great community with solid schools.
I have friends who head down 29 to get to work. Others take 32. One friend in Fulton negotiated a deal where she works from home 90% of the time b/c she agreed to travel about 4x out of the year.
People do what they have to do. Personally, I know firsthand that Howard County schools are excellent. In fact, we almost moved there for the schools.

Isn't Howard County one of the best schools based on greatschools, niche, etc.?
I lived in HoCo for 5 years and loved it but wouldn't describe the county as "walkable". If you look at walk scores for various zip codes, the average in HoCo will be much lower than for MoCo: https://www.walkscore.com/score/21044
