OP here. Agreed that mariah is being terrible to America.

Also I'm watching Maddies wedding it's on TLC right now again and wowwww was Cody terrible at officiating. Terrible

I can understand Meri's feelings. This is her only child and the other three wives have 4, 6 and 6 children. They are from a very strict lifestyle that does not condone homosexuality. She's not happy with Cody and feels alone. She had a vision of what her life would be like with just Mariah and this is not anything she imagined. Also, Cody divorced Meri, the only woman he was legally married to, so that he could legally marry Robin and adopt her kids. I know it was just a legal thing and the "spiritual marriage" is what matters to them. But still. I'm guessing being the only woman really married to Cody gave her a sense security.

Just a PSA using the term "gypped" is considered a slur, implying gypsys are out to cheat you. Similar vein to not using the term "indian giver" which is a slur against american indians implying give something and take it back.

I actually think Mariah is acting HORRIBLY towards her mom. Meri clearly isn't upset about Mariah being gay, she's upset about the fact that her and Mariah's relationship has deteriorated to the point that it never occurred to Mariah to talk to her about any of this. That she doesn't have a relationship really with her anymore and its agonizing for her. I really felt for Meri trying so hard to get her to open up and to apologize if she hadn't reacted right, she was trying to do and say the right things and Mariah wouldn't even throw her a bone.

I think I really dislike it because what happened between Meri and Cody isn't really any of Mariah's business and she's acting like Meri cheated on HER. No attempts to understand what it would be like to be a sister wife (even though she has decided to not be a sister wife), no understanding for being one of four wives who was only able to have one child, no understanding for how unbearably lonely and sad she's been for years. Like just watching the show the last few years is like watching Meri slowly sink into a depression.

I dunno, I'm happy for Mariah, but I think the 'I'm gay' issue and the 'Meri' issue are two totally different issues. They're being conflated cause they're happening at the same time but its really terrible to watch IMO, the way she treats her mom.


But unseen part of the story is that Meri pulled Mariah into the catfishing. She was going to take her to meet the "guy" and basically forced her into the issue when she shouldn't have. That's where a lot of the resentment is coming from, IMO.

Meri was happy when she was in love with Robin a few years ago. She's not that different from her daughter, except that she hasn't escaped the brainwashing of her culture/religion.

Meri has a pretty sweet set up. She doesn't work, has a huge house to herself and barely has to see the husband she doesn't really like. If she left, she'd have to find a job and move to a crappy apartment.

I think Mariah is acting like most teenagers when they find out a parent has had an affair (emotional or physical). They rebel and have anger with the cheating parent. I am not convinced Meri sees her part in her deteriorating relationship with Mariah.
