Great stores - food, wine, pet food, dry cleaners - great restaurants, from ethnic to American, high end to laid back, excellent farmers market, yoga studios, tons of parks, including both neighborhood parks and Battery Kemble park (woods/stream), diverse housing options plus diverse residents, and great neighborhood elementary school, easy access to bike trails and the Potomac River. And mostly democrat-leaning, like most of DC.

Yes but there is nothing woodsy about downtown Frederick. Frederick reminds me more of downtown Portland, ME ( without the water of course) than Portland OR. And it's nothing like the Bay Area- at all. But it is a little funky with plenty of shops and restaurants

Lived in SF a good number of years. Indie businesses, food coop on Buckeystown Pike, lots of farmers markets because there are a lot of farms nearby. Civil War era architecture and people-wise, if you stay in the downtown area, liberal amd diverse.

Takoma Park is as close as you are going to get. I'm from the PNW and know what you are looking for, and you just can't find it here. But Takoma Park has a lot to offer, including a small and charming downtown with strict zoning laws, and nice housing stock.

Daly City/ south SF hometown here. Silver Spring reminds me of San Mateo, a bit. And some neighborhoods in Baltimore remind me of the tenderloin/mission, a bit. But it sounds like you are looking for something more antiseptic.
