My family watched it for the umpteenth time last night, I really do like Anna. I may be the only person who likes "Love is an Open Door" better than "Let it Go". Her lyrics are a hoot.

Marketing. The Disney machine marketed Elsa as the star. The dolls, the dress, the toys: Elsa was the star.

I'm glad they revamped it. As a little sister myself, I identify with Anna (and would do anything for my big sister). But to me, big sister was always calm, unruffled, RESPONSIBLE and a bit remote, having done so many things I haven't. Elsa is really set up there on a pedestal in Anna's eyes and she earns it. She is truly a good big sister. Sniff. Now I'm going to call my sister.

When our DD first got into it, she knew it only because of the song. She called it "Let It Go" and never knew the name of the movie for months.

Now her younger sister, currently 18 months old, has already started to sing (in her baby babble words) Let It Go also. I'm assuming she'll be pining for Elsa dresses like her big sister wears soon. For them, it's the song.

I've watched this movie a ridiculous number of times and wonder the same thing as OP each time. Elsa is probably one of my least favorite Disney Princesses, right down there with Snow White. Meanwhile Anna is one of my faves!

Agree with all the PPs - it's about the ice powers, the hair tossing, and the song.

Yes, Anna saves everyone - but she's also the one who falls for the prince . . . Elsa turns out to be one strong lady with no romantic interest in sight. So, not such a bad role model for our girls.

We talked a lot about how both sisters were brave and sacrificed for the others. Anna was willing to sacrifice her life.
