That's so sad that they felt that way. It's the kids' personalities and drive that are the main factors in their sucess...blaming their parents who foot the tuition for them at a state school is beyond pathetic.

Georgetown has the benefit of being in a big city, which means internship possibilities. With the job market as it is, students who have actual experience working in firms/offices before they graduate can have a leg up over those who don’t.

HYP/Stanford/Duke are schools to take over U.Va. undergrad for a Virginia resident.

But a school like Cornell or Georgetown? I don't know....I'd advise you to do some deep research into grad school admissions. I can only speak to Penn, where I went to law school, but there were several U.Va. and William & Mary undergrads in my law school class.

I know that the site Poets & Quants periodically will list feeder schools for top MBA programs (Harvard, Stanford, etc.) U.Va. usually places well in those articles.

And it also depends on the undergrad major. I could see Cornell/Georgetown maybe winning out over U.Va. for Arts & Sciences if the students wants to get a Ph.D., but there's not a rational person who would take either school over U.Va. if the student plans to major in business. McIntire really doesn't take a back seat to any other undergrad business school in terms of placement and reputation.

Such a silly question. Sounds like you think the only point of college is to end up with a name in a line on your résumé. I always thought the point of college was to study and learn and grow. There's no "right" or "best" when it comes to college -- only what is a good fit for your child and your family.

I'm guessing that well over 50 percent of the posters here went to UVA. Don't generalize.

Not sure why you are worrying about a purely theoretical problem. But here's the answer: yes, HYP, Cornell, and Penn (but only Wharton undergrad) over UVA. Duke? Maybe. That's about it.
