No. They don't. They are taxed just like your regular earnings. Because that's what they are. Regular earnings.

Except, they get taxed at your marginal rate, which for many of us if over 40% when you combine federal and state taxes.

So, yes, as previous PP said bonuses get super taxed.

Every next dollar gets taxed at the highest marginal rate. If, at the end of the day, your taxable income doesn't support the use of that rate, you aren't taxed at that rate.

If you are talking about amounts withheld, that's not a tax. Period. It is withholding. And you may or may not get some of it back.

So no. A bonus is not "super" taxed. It's is taxed exactly like all of your other earnings paid in cash. Exactly.

NP here. Correct. I am always blown away at how dumb DCUM is when it comes to this concept.

I work at a small nonprofit and bonuses are not a thing.

Anonymous wrote:Nothing. And they changed our holiday party from subway sandwiches to a potluck this year. At least they are combining it with a staff meeting so we only have to stay late one day instead of two?

Oh man. Any time they are trying to save money by doing something cheaper than *subway sandwiches*...that's just a bad sign. I think everyone should refuse to bring a dish out of solidarity and just show up for a no-food meeting. A potluck is employees paying for their own holiday party.

Zero bonuses, zero benefits. Ever. The joys of working for a small business.
