OP here. Not surprised how off the rails my post went.
Still not word on where the check is. spent close to an hour on hold with the post office yesterday. gave up because I was at work and couldn't hold any longer.
some answers to some of the snarky comments:
1) have I ripped into our attorney? not yet. But I will, and rightfully so.
2) to the person who commented that maybe we shouldn't be landlords if we can't afford to be without the $18K.
Where'd you pull that one from? That was a stretch obviously made to incite. I never said we couldn't afford to be without the payment. And if this is how YOU think about YOUR finances, then you're not very financially savvy. If you had $18K floating around the US somewhere, you'd be just as upset. I dare any of you not to be. I am more calm today than I was a few days ago because some of you actually posted some good suggestions which made me feel better that all is not lost the check is not located.
3) Nope, the tenants are not some computer geeks out in SV. Its in the West but not California. Step away from the type writer Sherlock. It used to be our main home, then we moved. so its not a shit shack, hence the $5K rent. The tenants are a husband and wife, in their late 50's.
And to think that I came here to ask a question about a serious matter that I really needed guidance on because I know there are a lot of really smart people on DCUM who could probably give me some sound advice. Thank you to those who made non-snarky suggestions on how to solve my issue.
To the snarks, I understand how my post maybe would have made you question my situation or make rude comments about it. Its okay, I'm an adult and can take it.
Now, off to call the post office again. Wish me luck! or not....
