I've been to tons of weddings for couples who met online-match, Jdate, okcupid, etc. it is the new normal for dating.

DH and I met on OkCupid. We exchanged approximately a dozen sentences before we set a date for three nights later.
If you want to meet men, you need to get off the computer and go meet them. Anyone who wanted to send more than a handful of emails wasn't really suitable for dating in my experience; the men who were willing to meet right away were much better candidates, even the ones who weren't a perfect match.

Sure, but there are plenty of people with "deep pathologies," as you put who you could meet in any setting -- bar, activity, friends. You seem to be implying that you are more likely to find someone with issues online than through other means, I am just don't know that is true. MAYBE, if you meet a good friend of a friend, they are less likely to have issues, but even then, plenty of people have issues that would show up in a serious relationship that wouldn't show up in a friendship.
A person online can hide more for longer so that you are attached when you find out negative info. Also you are stripped of non-verbal cues in early conacts (facial expressions, tone of voice, gaze, etc.)

People can meet online other than through dating sites.

Look lives are busier, communities are bigger, roles and expectations are less predetermined, we meet people in all sorts of ways (on the bus, on an airplane, WHILE WEARING PANTS) that women didn't used to. Just go have a drink with one of these men who seems decent. If you like him have a second. If not, meet another!

I just got back from my SIL's wedding. She met her (now) husband online. One of my neighbors who have a baby the same age as mine also met online.
Online dating seems like the most common way to meet a spouse, if you don't meet in college/grad school.

I know so many people who met online including family. I've been on every major site and had plenty of dates on all of them, but it has never worked out for me. It also seems like quite possibly the most unromantic thing in the world. I suppose it's awful if it doesn't work out, but a happy fluke when it does.

Dh and I did. 6 years later and more in love than ever. Have about 6 couple friends who met online and are in various stages of LTR. Some dating for a year, some engaged, some married. All very happy.
I'd say most of us met on OkCupid, although one of our friends is getting married this summer and they met on Tinder!
