Blanket spread out underneath and there's no contact with the floor. Kids never complain, they think it's fun, and I honestly think they'd hate to be put in their own room. Vacations are bonding time. We're not a family who has ever used a kids club. We have great memories squished together. Oh, and I'm talking about 5-6 nights.

No way would I "just take day trips" as a substitute. As if I'm torturing my kids by giving them opportunities to travel.

Sounds like hell, and no vacation at all. Put your 3 kids in a separate room, jeez.

+1, and what utter misery for the teenagers to all be in room

you could do this with young kids, but for your preteen/teen kids this is just going to suck. Give them a little dignity and get two rooms.

I do not understand this sentiment at all. What is undignified about this?

Op it's really going to depend on fire codes and where you're going. Just do it above the board and call the hotel first.

Why? There's no need to tell the hotel.

Yup, and here are more frugal tips: Buy a shot of espresso and use milk from the bar to make it a latte. Keep the tags on that dress, and return it after the event.

It seems silly to pay for two rooms when we pull in at midnight and are on the road by 7 am. And yes, some sleep on the floor in sleeping bags. It doesn't bother me at all; we have traveled all over the country.

+ Sounds like awesome fun! good for you!

Yup, I'm rooting for this team too!

No, every choice has its consequences, positive and negative.

+1. OP, just call and ask. Don't ask this blog, clearly 80% of people are judgmental f**ks.

I agree! And I think I was raised upper-middle-class by almost anyone's standards. Nice suburban house, good public schools, parents paid for 4 years of college. But our family of five always shared one room on vacation, my parents would have thought it crazy to double their hotel budget. Different strokes for different folks, I guess, but how wealthy did all of you grow up?

I meant to say families of 5 - not 5 kids - that might be pushing it too far
