Lacrosse is definite a "concussion sport," not as bad as football, but a factor.

Kids begin playing very early, especially those with parents who played LAX. The kids who start early have an advantage that often lasts into high school. Kids who are old for their class also do well early. All of those early advantages tend to fade during high school and the real elite athletes who are destined to excel in college begin to stand out.

The best college LAX player that I saw develop from a young age was an all around athlete who didn't focus on LAX until 10th grade - a college All-American now.

Bear in mind that, at most, LAX will give a kid a boost in getting into a college. In my opinion, far too many kids put too much emphasis on playing LAX in college only to quit soon after entering college or regret making a college choice based on LAX. LAX should be fun!

what is wrong with you? do you really go around and call kids garbage? If they aren't great players say that but at least these kids aren't sitting around doing nothing.

In truth, the horse trading from the cheap seats over which middle school teams are best or best for recruiting is silly. My son is now a HS senior and his brother is in 8th grade. I've been very disappointed to see kids drop this and other sports all over the weaning process that people get wound up about to position to be recruited by colleges. It takes too much of the enjoyment out of sports for the kids, and that is a shame.

ITA with this. My son plays JV on a VERY strong private school team. He is a decent player but has no aspirations to play in college, therefore not looking to get recruited. Frankly, his strong academic performance will ensure his admittance into his choice school. But the tension I see from the parents of the more serious players looking to get recruited is worrisome. The poor kids who must feel enormous from parents and coaches alike. Glad my son has a more realistic sense of what it means to enjoy playing sports in high school.

Invited by who? You mean the mass e-mail they blasted out this week working off an address list they purchased from U.S. Lacrosse?

Endicott College in Masshole....NEVER heard of it. My favorite part was...."Brand new Air Conditioned Dining Hall"......did the old one just open and close windows?

I'm sure Petro, Desko, Corrigan et all will be there....NOT.

Also look at the list of "confirmed colleges" that will be attending the event...Are the listed schools among your target list?

There's "too many lacrosse showcase" events --coaches can't be everywhere
