Starbucks cups are subpar. The recycled paper has a slight taste/smell and it's horrible at holding temp. I personally prefer styrofoam coffee cups - but only one tiny coffee shop near work uses them.

Everyone realizes the health code violations and general grossness of the fast food and restaurant industry more generally. I'm a little surprised that folks aren't bothered by a stranger rubbing their bare hand all over the mouthpiece of the lid. That's all.

Last week at a restaurant in the airport, the server brought us our waters ans held them by the lip, 4-5 of her fingers holding on to where I put my mouth. So I used a straw. Usually things like this don't bother me but ugh. That was gross.

I almost always make my coffee at home. When I buy it someplace like Starbucks I use my reusable coffee cup (same size as a Starbucks Grande). The employee makes the drink, I put the reusable lid on. I use the reusable cup to avoid waste, but if I were a germaphobe I would use my own cup and lid to avoid barista germs.

Forgot to mention how Starbucks just makes their hit espresso shots right in the empty plastic cold cup. Not great to out scalding hot espresso in the cold cup, either! This drives me mildly nuts and I'm not sure why they do it - plenty of independent coffee shops put the milk and other ingredients in first, so the hot espresso isn't hitting the plastic.

52 posts about how baristas are putting your coffee lids on! You guys should actually be more worried about the disposable cup itself, which is lined with plastics and various other materials (depending on whether the cup is styrofoam or paper), which have negative health effects. Take your own cup or pour into your mug ASAP!

Can't walk without a lid, can't drive without a lid, and drink gets colder faster. I'll usually remove lid at my desk though.

I'm a germophobe - I just take the lid off if someone else has put it on. And every once in a while, I forget or I'm with someone else and don't want to look like a germophobe -so I shrug my shoulders and just drink it. I think it's good for hand sanitizing, not touching the elevator buttons - germophobes to let it go once in a while and I force myself to.

I'm not a germaphobe and have never purchased antibacterial hand stuff, but this grosses me out every time I see them do it. That said, I shrug my shoulders and just drink it anyway. But I definitely notice how they put the cover on.

I hardly ever get coffee out, I make my own. But I got one one time and the Barista gave it to some guy who was putting it to his mouth - snd then he gave it to me. That's my limit. Who knows where that mouth had been. Yaaaaaa. No.

I've totally become a germaphobe and like OP this grosses me out. I def don't take the 'last lid' : worse for me at SB when the cashier writes on my cup then puts finger inside it as they line up to be made. Yep-know I'm whack but I'm w/you OP
