It sounds like a dream life for most women so they can't stand it when lorelei complains about stuff.

L thinks she is so great bc she grew up rich, eschewed it because she was "right," disses on her rich upbringing every chance she can get, yet takes from it. And acts like a teen brat ALLLL the way through.

It's the actress. I hate her on Parenthood, too. She's terrible.
Now it is all coming together! I'm one of the PP that couldn't figure why I hated GG when so many people love it and so many people thought I'd love it. I also hated Parenthood-- only tried two episodes and that was enough. I guess I just really, really hate that actress. That's weird, but I guess it happens.
Yeah, Lauren Graham really isn't a very good actress. Lorelai Gilmore seems to be perfectly written for her, but her character (and her portrayal of her character) on Parenthood sucks. Her family unit--couldn't really stand the actress everyone loves who plays her daughter on that show either, is what made Parenthood unwatchable to me.
That said, I think Lorelai is annoying but I still like GG and have watched the whole series a few times. I think if you get over feeling like you need to side with Lorelai on everything and just enjoy the weirdness of the town and even occasionally allow yourself to side with her mother it's a much better show.
I also agree that in many ways Lorelai is better matched to Christopher, though they never ever wrote that relationship in a way that worked. It's like they tried to assassinate his character intentionally as soon as they got married. I foresee a lot of challenges for her and Luke, since I think Luke actively discourages the best part of Lorelai which is her ability to find the fun in anything. Looking forward to the reboot regardless, though.

Lorelai was also overly silly about everything. It was also so unrealistic how they could eat all that junk food and not gain weight and how Rory almost always got what she wanted. I also couldn't stand how fast they talked!
Actually, I always thought the quick, witty dialogue is what separated this show from the usual melodramas.
