You don't need to call 911 but you do need to let the police know your kid has received a written threat. Simple. Doesn't have to be a big drama just go down to the police station and let someone write it up.

You've then marked it, officially. It could be a one off and never a problem again, or it could be the start of a bigger problem, either way, you've marked it in a timely manner.

The will act interested because unfortunately they deal with psycho mothers all the time. They will look serious, doodle on a note pad, maybe even offer to talk to the young "offender" and his parents. But they will definitely consider it a waste of time and resources. They deal with this kind of crazy every day.

If my son and a friend got in a fight and yelled at each other " I am going to kill you" then we have a talk. But a note, left at your house, by who knows, saying I will kill" my sons name". Police get called. Sorry, but kids can be crazy and adults can use construction paper. I would tell the police I realize it could be a kid acting out, but I would call them.



Agreeing with the both of you. The pps saying to ignore it or who think it's a funny and harmless prank are probably the same people who when they see headlines of children harming another child ask where the adults and why didn't they do anything?
OP I would contact the school and the police.

The school has nothing to do with this. It blows my mind that people want to drag them into every issue that involves children.
If my adult neighbor, friend of DH did something similar during non-work hours and non-work related, my first response wouldn't be "let's contact their employer!"
