I live in Northeast PA and I would definitely say more Rust Belt than "east coast." We are working class, fishing, hunting, mudding, frugal, jeans and t-shirt type people for the most part.

Was in Lancaster this past week - pastoral, rustic, if you are foodie the restaurant scene is really good as is the art gallery scene.

However I saw a lot of latinos that's were walking around in wife beaters and looked like they were la gangbangers. I had no idea Lancaster had so many latinos.

Outside of F&M and the hospital/upenn health system it's kind of eh.

I can see they want to try to make it into an affordable Portland

That is so untrue. The main line is one of the most difficult areas of the country to assimilate into, because so few people move out of it. Main line kids have the same group of friends that they have had ever since they went to St Joe's Prep, Villa, or Baldwin. Trust me.

While Philly does have shipbuilding in it's history, it's economy hasn't been tied to steel the way Pittsburg and Ohio were. Philly's manufacturing were more textiles and biomedical is pretty big there now.

I see Philly as East Coast and Pittsburg as Rust Belt.
