Subject: If you are black, does your son play baseball?
My son likes it well enough, but much prefers soccer and swimming to baseball.

I'm a white American and I hate baseball.
In fact, I actively steered my boys away from it.
I'm woman soccer and middle distance runner and wanted them burning more calories and getting g more activity.
We stayed until kid pitch and I wanted to poke my eyes out.
They play travel soccer and basketball now.

We are AA and both of my sons play baseball. Oldest plays for middle school and travel. Youngest plays little league and travel. Although I did not play (softball), baseball was big in my father's family and they all played in rural VA in the 50's and 60's. A great uncle really loved baseball and used it as a way to keep the very large family of cousins engaged in something positive. Our family reunions always include a baseball game.

DC is becoming a great baseball city for children from all backgrounds.
DC has 6 little leagues that foster a spirit of having fun, good sportsmanship and learning the fundamentals. I've been fortunate enough to coach my DS for 2 years now and been impressed that among the 4-6 year old division and now the 6-8 year old division to see children from all backgrounds. And all players benefit from this diversity.
It also has camps like Home Run Baseball Camp which is concious about building bridges with communities throughout the city. Thanks Coach Mac!
There's also the Nats Youth Academy in Fort Dupont which not only provides great baseball coaching, but has an amazing summer school and after school program for the Fort Dupont neighborhood.
Plus, the Nationals, themselves, are fortunate to have some amazing African American players like Joe Ross, Brian Goodwin, Michael Taylor, Ben Revere (and in previous seasons, Denard Span). So we have plenty of role models here with our home team.

A bank in Tennessee was found guilty of racial discrimination and ordered to pay $10 million in fines . They were purposely charging higher interest rates to non-Caucasians . It happened in 2016 not 1890, assholes like you will have it coming in this country someday .

You know Dominicans, Nicaraguans, and Hondurans who identify as white?
Don't forget Panamanians and Cubans (the ones left back on the island, not the Gloria Estefans in South Fl). Most of these nationalities would blend right into a predominantly AA community, until they start speaking Spanish. Makes me chuckle at the immigration implications.
