What am I missing?
The reason is that out of all the affluent schools in NW, Janney is the most affluent. It's human nature for the masses to not like the most affluent. It's the reason why lots of people "hate" Microsoft.
No way, Mann is far more affluent than the rest -- Spring Valley, Foxhall, Kent -- way more expensive than AU park, CCDC or the Palisades.
Yet Janney has a tick lower % of FARM. Both pretty negligible but Janney has a lower % with 2x the enrollment.
Agree that Mann is the more affluent district. The fund raising is well above any other DC public school
Mann families can afford private. Janney families went all-in for the ugly little Tenleytown houses and are committed (!!!) to promoting their school and real estate at all costs - even when they make themselves look clueless.
But that's the same situation in CCDC and the Palisades! Same price points, same general housing stock (maybe a bit more land).
Right - but Janney's IB homes are closer to Metro and of anyone, have least chance of ever in the future being zoned out of Deal and Wilson because of that proximity.
Metro proximity and IB middles do not make Janney the most affluent, which is what you were arguing before, and what you have changed your mind about a few times now. Metro accessibility and IB middles are just what makes IB Janney neighborhoods have a higher crime rate.
This. Not going to Deal nor Wilson even if somebody paid us. Not going to metro there when Wilson gets out. Woodley park has a fine metro if needed.

Families move and at least the previous Janney principal often let them stay as OOB.

But that's because it's a population where a significant portion of students attend private school. But I get your point. Still, on average, I bet the Mann income greatly outpaces the Janney income, FARMS kids included.
The other schools have generally had, up until now, larger percentages of OOB students. Janney was the first to have virtually no one who is OOB. Now more of the rest of the Ward 3 schools are trending in that direction.
Not true. Mann always had fewer. In fact, Mann was the one school that was able to delay being forced into ending at 5th grade (some WOTP schools used to go to 6th) for an extra year or so. That's because all the IB students didn't want to go to Hardy, but Mann has always had more political pull. They're just subtle about it. It's like they're Kennedys and prefer privacy and discretion whereas the Janney folks are like Kardashians. They JUST WON"T SHUT UP.
IB stats:
Janney: 91%
Mann: 81%
Lafayette: 85%
Key: 83%
Murch: 61%
PS- only 61% at murch?
It's quite hard to understand why Janney is nearly 10% OOB when it is overcrowded. By definition, shouldn't there be OOB slots only when there is excess capacity over IB enrollment? Shouldn't the admin be more actively pruning the OOB number?

Now I believe every Janney post even the ones that always say "there's Janney and there's everyone else."
It's pretty sad.
I also think it has to do with those Janney posters wanting to validate their real estate sales and appear more exclusive.
I have met a few nice Janney parents in person (primarily via Stoddert soccer), it's sad that a few (or many) rotten apples have ruined the reputation.
These DME meetings....What did they say? What was the topic??

Funniest description ever.
And yeah - Murch is lower percentage but growing. Some portion is related to the self-contained classrooms for children with autism and other serious disabilities, but it's always had more spaces (similar to Hearst).
