My oldest wears her hair short with bangs because when it was long I insisted on ponytails or braids to keep it out of her face. Her hair is thin and tangles easily. She hated me brushing it, so we cut it short so she could brush it herself. She's asked for a pixie, but I steered her to a longer cut. She was glad, she thought she looked like a boy at first even without the pixie.

My youngest has long thick hair that curls on the ends. It only tangles when she gets something in it. Mostly she wears it down but I can often get her to wear braids because of Frozen. She tolerates brushing much better.

Im pretty laid-back about most things, but cleans hands and faces and brushed hair in public are important to me, so if my girls don't want to have their hair brushed I am all for a short haircut.

Another total tomboy here. Shoulder length, always down, heaven forbid I should suggest a ponytail, even for sports. She brushes it well and washes it nightly so I can't complain.

Nothing detracts from a cute little girl's looks than long, stringy hair and you see it all the time. I think that long hair on little girls (not old enough to brush it once or twice throughout the day) looks much better with thick hair. Thin hair gets stringy and tangled easily.

I love the bob cut with bangs. I think many women have been brainwashed into thinking long hair is more girly/feminine/attracted.

The other pixie PP here. DD does get comments about her short cut but not teasing. She has no problem saying that yes, she's a girl with short hair, it's her hair and she likes it that way. She once had a conversation on the monkey bars about how people tend to decide about other people based only on their looks. Conversation was with a long-haired (past shoulder-length) boy.

I doubt it. We switched to this cut because DH was getting her ready most mornings and it was looking like a stringy mess. I was originally sad to cut bangs. Years later and I love this style on her! It looks so much neater at the end of the day and is so much easier. They have style.

My dd has a chin length bob. She gets complimented all the time but now I know it's out of pity. Oh well.

No way. Short hair frames a face and is so much easier to care for. I think long hair usually looks messy and stringy.
