DC Bi is the weakest feeder to DCI, but it still gets you into DCI. Inspired Teacheing is a bit of dead end at the higher grades.

I live in the area, close to the intersection in question in front of DC Bilingual, on Riggs Rd NE and Blair Rd Ne. The intersection is a severe public safety concern, especially now that there are two charter schools and health clinic nearby, in addition to all the pedestrian traffic that uses the nearby public transit. I, personally, have had several near misses with cars. The crossing guard at the intersection this morning told me that a coworker of his at the intersection the previous day had their foot run over. There are some relatively easy fixes that could easy the issues, but it takes a lot of momentum and pressure to have the city even evaluate an issue like this. Unfortunately, traffic is a dull topic, and it takes a scary tragedy, like a car hitting a child on the 500 block block of Riggs Rd. NE, for anyone to pay any attention (and then, only briefly).

I am working on drawing the city's attention to the intersection. If you would like to be included on a letter to the city to draw attention to the problem and request a study and improvements to the intersection, please send an email to me at [alexhadden at hotmail dot com]. In addition to the 311 traffic calming request process, I think it will be more effective to have a letter go directly to the DC Council Member, Mayor, DDOT, etc. Cheers, Alex

Taking the bus or biking to these schools is quite easy if you're coming from Petworth, FWIW. No traffic to worry about that way.

Well, kind of, except that I am a cyclist that lives in the neighborhood and was almost hit by a car on Fort Totten Drive this morning on my way into work after dropping my kid at school. I've also been honked at and had many close calls with impatient and aggressive drivers since the beginning of the school year (really people, don't pass a cyclist unless you can give them AT LEAST 3 feet of clearance). Not sure if the jerk drivers are school parents or not, but have definitely noticed that the traffic and accompanying aggression has increased DRAMATICALLY since school has started. Something really needs to be done about this area... but i'm not sure I know of anything would help at this point. Hopefully DDOT is more creative than i am!
