WTH? I was asked what my spouse does and how I felt about it, so I answered the question. He's a teacher, and I think it's great.

I WOH and make almost 2x what he does.

Are you assuming that the women answering don't work?


They are all attorneys married to cops or investigators!
My DH is attorney, I am a PI

Sales and YES! He makes great money and hasee a ton of flexibility. We take lots of vacations and 3 day weekends. Even leaving for the weekend in 1hr. I'll drive and he'll get online and finish up.

Career soldier. He is also college educated, but loves what he does and decided to stay in through retirement. I grew up military so I knew what I was getting into. Deployments do make it hard, but I am very independent and have my own career and interests, so it's not like I just sit and wait for a year for him to come home.

I'm immensely proud of him.

DH works in international development (finance), and due to his seniority, travels only occasionally and even then only for a week to ten days. Love his intellect and his passion and while the job is stressful and demanding, he's home for dinner between 5:30-6 every night and helps shuttle the kids around in the afternoon too.

Salary is great and he plans to most amazing vacations as he has contacts in all corners of the world and has access to things and places. The kids love the stories he has and dinner table discussions are fascinating as we talk about what's happening in the country' and around the world and his perspective and knowledge is illuminating to all of us.

Sales, yes. He's naturally good at it. He does travel often, but when he isn't travelling his hours are good.

PP here - Attorney with cop fiancé! I'm in government so I make crap. No HHI gloating here. But we have a great relationship, enough money to pay the bills and have some extras, love our jobs, so really no complaints.

DH is an attorney. I love that he used to love his profession/job, but I wish for him that he was happier. His identity was work and he was one of the ones that loved being in biglaw, being a senior associate always on call etc. And then it came to an end at yr 8 bc he didn't make partner -- HQ for that firm doesn't want to promote in the branch office. So he didn't get promoted, was too senior to get hired at one of the few other branch biglaw in our small city, unemployed for a while, and then landed in a govt job that he really dislikes bc it's just not "demanding enough." It has changed him. It's been 2 yrs since the layoff and he doesn't talk about it anymore, but he isn't the same -- more down about work but just about life generally.

So while I like the profession, I wish it had worked out better for my DH and/or he could find a way back to the firm world. (And no it isn't about money.)

DH is a professor. I'm proud of his smarts and glad he contributes positively to the world with his work, though at times wish he pursued a job that paid better for all his education. He probably would say the same about me though: proud I've pursued work that makes the world a better place, but wishes I earned more now that we have kids and are struggling to pay daycare bills.

For work? Yep. If he's with the owner of the company, always. He goes to some remote places and will
fly private into small airports and then drive or get driven to where he needs to go, too. For pleasure? No. We do fly first class a lot though.

I don't think you can assume from these threads that the DWs are SAHMs. Who is to say they aren't professionals too who just happen to be on here answering the question asked about what their spouse does? The wife may still tip them over the high HHI category. These are the kind of assumptions that need to be changed.


I posted that my husband is a lawyer and started his own firm with a friend. I'm not a SAHM.
