Sorry to disagree. Laura Trevelyan is my favorite on the show. Her accent makes washing a tea cup sound like a momentous event. To me, she seems to find this life and discussing it fascinating. She asks great questions that show that she has done her homework and knows her stuff. Each night when I turn in, I am hoping Laura Trevelyan will be in the chair.

I took a look at the internet to see if others found Laura Trevelyan's voice as irritating as I. ..She may be a great person, but she has no business anchoring a major newscast. Please, buy out her contract and GET HER OFF THE AIR. I cringe every time she speaks......

I too find her voice irritating. It would seem the management is or should be aware and do something.

She drives me insane.
She needs lessons in elocution and phonation.
All she does is quack like a duck.
I do not listen to the BBC when she is no.

I first encountered Laura Trevelyan when she was reporting on location during US election night. She had to speak loudly over the noise around her and it was excruciating. I can't bear to hear her voice. I feel awful having to say it but the fact that I found this online conversation proves that I am not alone.
Surely she must be aware of this and you would hope she would try to have a voice-coach to help her eliminate that awful nasal sound coupled with the painful vowels sounds.
I live in the US now and watch BBC World news a lot. But, I have to switch her off even if I'm interested in the item she's announcing.

Umm ok. Curious to know (a) which countries you consider first rate; and (b) where you rank the US?

I listen to the BBC news in the western US. Britain has changed over the years. You hear all kinds of accents from all sorts of people. I don't think that her accent is any better or worse than of the other talking heads on the tube. We all have to take into account that at least she is speaking English. I'm British and I just listened to her for the first time because of this thread. I don't understand what the problem is? What am I not hearing?! Those who don't like her, assuming it's not just that you don't like any British accents, can you give an example of a British female voice that you are OK with?

Laura Trevelyan sounds like a Siamese cat in heat. I immediately turn the channel whenever I see her. Please, BBC, have mercy on us. Bring back Katty Kay or replace Katty with a newscaster who speaks proper English rather than cockney.

To begin with I too thought her accent strange. A few odd vowels etc.,but certainly not posh.
She's just from an old provincial family with a particular way of speaking; educated in
north London, thus a slight cockney twang.
She has a nice, genuine manner and not pretentious or arrogant. Looks friendly,which helps.
Very attractive too.

OHHH I so glad other people find Laura Trevelyans voice grating. I cannot watch the show when she is on. I cannot believe that they keep her on the show. I am sure she is a nice person but having her on such an important and popular show is crazy as half the time we cannot even understand nor want to listen to her. She is so distracting from the new in the world. Just awfuf

I too find Laura Trevelyan's voice irritating... and difficult to understand at times. Not a good sign for a newsreader. I don't know if voice training would help. There must be dozens of other qualified newsreaders with a suitable voice and elocution waiting in the wings. It's not like Ms. Trevelyan needs the money.
