If a 17 year old girl is allowed to walk free alone with no friends around a place in Europe it is cool.
Hope she does not get raped... like 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 freshman at college.
I don't care who you are ... you don't walk around alone.
Your friends/family need to know where you are and when you are getting home.

No matter how responsible and intelligent a 17 year old 'young woman' is she lacks the practical experience of someone 10+ years older and is absolutely more vulnerable to those who would do her harm.
OMG you are kidding me. You think a middle-class american 17 year old with a job and staying with her dad for the summer in Warsaw is at risk of being trafficked? Get a grip, PP.
The trafficking was an example of a very real, and growing, threat to young girls and young women all over the world. If you think it is that far fetched in Poland, or the U.S. then I suggest you do some research.
And your description is meaningless. Bottom line is, she is 17, in a large city and a foreign country so all the cavalier posts I see on here are ridiculous and there should be better communication than see ya later. But then again, many parents don't parent anymore, they prefer to be more like friends and guidance counselors.
And my children will assure you that I was never an overprotective parent.

OP stated that Warsaw was not a developed city. It's looks pretty dang developed to me. They have a fire department, a police department, indoor plumbing, bank machines, cell phone service, and the list goes on. What does Washington, DC have that Warsaw doesn't? Besides an overbearing mother who has no idea she's overbearing.

gunned down
eaten by an alligator
killed in a car accident driving with her friends
That you think she is in more danger in a major metropolitan European city because "rampant human trafficing" is absurd.
It's not that we are "unaware" or "indifferent." It's that we are living in reality, and have a healthy sense of accepatable risk. (Accepatble=deciding not to hide under your bed all day.)
Poland has very strict gun control and absolutely zero alligators in the wild. She has a bus pass so a car accident is unlikely as well. She's far safer over there than she is over here.
