St. Louis is fantastic. It is probably one of the best cities for kids in the country.

The zoo (Free!) is hands down the best traditional zoo in the US. It is better than San Diego (The main zoo, of course not the animal sanctuary).


Agree--I love St. Louis. I'd add the City Museum to the above list--it's unlike anything I've ever seen.

I was surprised by how much we enjoyed Winston Salem when we went for a soccer showcase. Lots of great food in the downtown part of the city, and some really fun barbecue destination spots not far away. Plus, it's very pretty around there.

I was very surprised to find myself enjoying parts of Texas... specifically, driving through hill country (it was beautiful, and the wildflowers!) and hanging out/shopping/eating/catching live music and visiting Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin and checking out San Antonio (river walk, old Spanish missions, breakfast tacos).

Kennywood, Sandcastle, do a boat tour (Good Ship Lollipop), Duck Tour. They may even have bike tours now. Spend time on Pitt's campus after seeing the Cathedral of Learning. Maybe ride the carousel and have lunch there. Then go over to the Carnegie Museums and Phipps Conservatory.

Forgot one other thing to do in the Oakland part of your Pittsburgh tour - especially for the baseball fans - check out the outfield wall from Forbes Field and the Homeplate.

I've been wanting to go to Pittsburgh for forever too! Trying to figure out a weekend this summer, but none of the times we are available coincide with Pirates home games
Dh just started a new job and hasn't built up enough time off yet to go mid-week.

I saw the thread title and came on to recommend Greenville. We went for a long weekend for a wedding and had a great time. Good food. Lots of things to do outdoors.
