I am completely gobsmacked that there are no police in the cars. Every other city has police in its subway, riding the rails.

Agreed. The disincentive to crime is to have police and cameras. People need to stop being ideal world and focus on real world. Have as many as you can afford. Focus on both 'hot spots' (permanent presence) and unpredictability==randomly walking trains and stations in an unpredictable way and I love this idea of greeting people and making presence known. How is this hard? I should run for police chief.

I am so sorry for that poor kid.

What does MPD have to do with this. This is a MOCO crime. Your question should read, what is Metro and MOCO police doing?

WMATA police have the exclusive jurisdiction in this case and all others that occur on Metro property. MCPD officers do not ride on trains.

In order to effectively patrol a eight car train there would need to be two officers per train. Two x 100 trains running at any given time plus an officer at each station would add up to about 240 officers on duty at any given time which is impossible.

Here let me spell it out for the slow ones: the forcible sodomy did not occur in Maryland. The forcible sodomy did not occur in wmata property either. That crime occurred in a bathroom stall on private property in the District of Columbia.

This is a multi jurisdictional situation.
