Have you read your contract. Mine specifically says that I am paid for only 10 months, not 12.

NP. DH isn't at the World Bank, but his vacation/ time off schedule is similar. Six weeks paid, all federal holidays, ability to telecommute. He works in the IT department at a non-profit.

Lobbyists can often take August off. But honestly I don’t find arranging camps to be that bad and my kids prefer camps like Calleva to hanging out at home.

Our school has a secretary, a book keeper, and a library assistant, none of whom are teachers and none work summers.

I’m a SAHM would not take a job that went through the summer. I love the summers and the stuff we do (swim team and extra travel) would be impossible if I worked.

I work in local government in the court system, and things slow way down in the summer. We don’t have them off, but it’s much easier to be flexible, take time off, etc. it may vary place to place though.

geez ... 10 vs 12 months, it's the same amount of money.

All this talk about summer pay for teachers makes you all seem pretty dense.

Depends on the school district and, in some cases, who you are -- in my dad's, you could pick whether to get paid over 12 months or just 10.

OP, you can also look at this from the other direction. What activities/camps would your kids be interested in, and how much time would that cover? My kids go to sleepaway camp for 7 weeks (ES aged), so I buckle down and work hard for those 7 weeks, and then take vacation and an occasional telework days for the remaining break time. (Three weeks for us in FCPS.)

The kids have a blast at camp, and I don't worry about having to balance work/camp/summer schedules.
