I disagree. Everyone I know who has cheated is very careful about using protection. Pregnancies and STIs are good ways to get caught.
If I had a spouse that had out of town conferences, you can bet there would be a PI following them. I wouldn't want to be stuck years with a cheater. Smart people randomly check their spouse.
What, really? I have a spouse that has tons of work trips ... I wouldn't want to be stuck years not trusting him. Never ever have I checked up on him. I'm not going to go looking for trouble. If my gut sometime in the future tells me it is time to spy, then I will. Not a second before. If I found out he's been cheating, we'll deal with it then.

"pathetic other woman!" conversation. Geez! Can't two people hit it off and want to knock boots without a referendum on their marital status? Why the assumption that this is adultery? I appreciate the responses that have stuck to the topic of how to have open, honest communication after a false start.
If you're too drunk and irresponsible to use protection and so immoral that you had a ONS with some guy from out of town, then the assumption that one or both of you is cheating is natural enough.

You would hire a PI to follow your spouse when traveling out of town for work? You have issues.

Don't assume, you know what they say about assumptions. Responsible guys always use condoms, this loser didn't.
I think even responsible guys have lapses of judgment when drunk.
