We applied last year to GDS and a few other schools. I thought the commute into DC for school would be well worth the sacrifice until we did a few shadow days. It took just a few visits to realize how very stressful it was going to be for 6 years. We chose a private that is 15 minutes drive. So glad we did because it's not just drop offs and pick ups. We frequently go back for sports and other events.

All things being equal. Parents can't decide. Kid can't decide. Go with the school that is closest to home. Your quality of life will be far better for the next few years.

You spoke to a college consultant as your DC is entering HS?? Oh boy....

Did your college consultant tell you how many legacy parents are at GDS vs Potomac? Believe what you want, but that legacy status plays a part in kids getting in.

You sound nutty....go with GDS! You'll be right at home.

What do they recruit for from GDS but not from Potomac?

If you live in Virginia, and your child likes Potomac, I would go with Potomac. Day to day will be a lot easier and college placement will be similar.

I agree with this. I think GDS probably has more legacies than Potomac. That makes a big difference.
