39 yo supervisory lawyer in local government, $150k a year. I usually work 9-530. In theory I have telework (1 day a week) and condensed schedule opportunities but it would be difficult doing that as a supervisor. I also have a very short commute so teleworking doesn't appeal to me. Occasional work in the evenings or weekends, and no travel.

Sigh, I'm wishing I went into a different profession right now seeing some of these salaries and telecommuting options. I'm a 42 yo math teacher making about 85k. I've been teaching for 20 years. I work from about 7:30-4 since I frequently have students for extra help, not counting commute. Grade, plan and answer emails frequently at night and on weekends. As you know, I get school vacations minus a couple weeks of professional development in the summer. I cherish vacation time with my own kids and it's worth not having flexibility the rest of the year.

I posted about being a supervisor making 55k. I am 30 and have a baby under age 1. DH is 33 and makes about 95k as a fed.

$115k; WAH couple of days a week.

I need the camaraderie of being at work. I would love to spend more time at my children's schools but I would make a terrible SAHM and I need my income.

I'm late 40's, 2 kids under 5, and work in senior management for an association.

I make $250k plus a bonus of 10-15%, 9-5, great work/life balance but no telework option.

I want to work, but my ideal would probably be a job that lets me be home at 3 or 4 in the afternoons once the kids start school.

8-4:30 four days per week; making right around 90k. I'm a lawyer with a small boutique firm and have tons of flexibility. I travel about once per month or once every two months for 2-3 days. I really enjoy what I do and feel pretty good about my setup but I wish I had a shorter commute (currently an hour each way). DH makes about the same amount I do. I'm 36.

Wow, I thought I was doing pretty well until I read this thread, too.

I think I'm at about $92k now. 34 with a 2-month old. Work in media for a labor union, so I've got job stability and raises built into my contract. No paid maternity leave, had to use all my vacation and sick time saved up over four years at the organization to get just under four weeks covered. At five years, I'll move from 2 to 3 weeks of vacation and be fully vested in my pension. Hours are 8:30-4:30, no overtime but absolutely no opportunity to work from home/flexible hours. Travel is on average one week a month (with weekend travel only a few times a year), but some months have less/none and some are back-to-back trips. This is a job of a lifetime for me – even if our office is kinda like working in the 1950s – and I plan to stay as long as I can.

I make about 65k for ~30 hours per week, set my own schedule, work from home when desired. No travel required. Unlimited, flexible leave -- if a kid is sick, I'm home with them, take days to go on a trip, not a problem.

I'm 31, in the A/E/C industry, would probably make around 100k if I was full-time, regular position at a typical firm. It works well for having two small kids in preschool and a DH who works 12 hour days, but considering getting back into the game more seriously now that the oldest is about to be in elementary school (and frankly, I'm bored and see no potential for advancement at my current firm).

I make $120k running a nonprofit. I WAH every day but have a handful of meetings downtown weekly. I typically work four 10 hour days (7 am-5 pm) and take Fridays off. I usually work 1-2 evenings per month. Travel is only 2-3 times per year. I'm 36 and returned to work after taking 3.5 years off--kids are 6, 4 and 2.

I posted about making $85,000 and I'm 33 with 2 kids for reference. DH is 34.

130k, 9-5 (although usually more like 9:30-4:30). No evenings or weekends, no travel required. Love it!! In house counsel at bank.

It would take me ages to work up to 6 figures at my job. Probably 10+ more years and I've already been there 3.5. Two of the ladies I supervise make around 45-48k and they've been there for. freaking. ever.

Me too - 55K - except I could never work up to 6 figs. My boss doesn't even make 6 figures (and I never want her job anyway). I'm at a nonprofit. The other people in my position who have been there a decade longer make about $65K. I can't believe how much folks here make! My spouse makes about 25K more than I do (senior position at another nonprofit) and I always thought we were fairly well off! I guess I don't hang out with any lawyers.

$125k. I work 9-5:15ish with a ton of flexibility and no travel. No evening and weekend work although I occasionally field emails off my phone. I enjoy my job and I can't imagine not doing it. But I suppose if money was no object I might explore radically different options.

I had my kids somewhat older (mid 30s) and I was very deiberate about getting myself on a path to having a job like the one I have for when I had kids. At one point in my early 30s, I took a pay cut to get into an organization I knew would offer better work life balance and more opportunity long-term.
