So spending 15-30 min before bedtime should not be a big deal. My DW was usually watching Desperate Housewives while I was playing Xbox... So which is worse?

My husband and I both love playing video games but we also have interest that don't overlap it's totally okay to be in a relationship with someone with different interests

I'm not sure why I single out the video games either. I can't articulate it. But there is obviously some aspect to gaming that's a major turn off for me. Maybe because every gamer I've met was absolutely and positively lame LOL

I engage in mind-numbing activities with gusto. Still can't stand video games and grown men who play them. I don't know any female gamers.

You're right. I'm 45. I want to spend time with a guy interacting, not playing video games. And it doesn't have to be opera or a play, either! Conversation about people, world events, our views on almost any topic.

I certainly don't understand the logic behind declaring video games as juvenile because you're "sitting on your ass watching a screen" while at the same time declaring that, say, going to a play or the opera (where you sit on your ass and stare at a stage) is "cultured." Is it because you wear fancier clothes?

Because it doesn't become something you do with all your time, like video games often do.

I wouldn't recommend making a litmus test out of gaming, necessarily, but gaming is more mentally stimulating than watching TV for sure.

Right. I wouldn't want a guy who did nothing but play on a console 8 hours every weekend or who ignored me for hours on end. But there's nothing wrong with a guy who enjoys his xbox. It must be generational because I don't understand the extreme hate that some women display towards them.

Yeah. There are a lot of mind numbing pursuits that both men and women engage in. For some reason video games just hit women in a particularly bad way. Not sure why.

If my DH ignored our kids watching football all day, that would be Lame too

I don't see it as any more mind-numbing than watching TV or reading DCUM. I don't think it's mandatory to have everything you engage in be a an enriching meaningful activity. I read trashy novels and I also read high quality fiction, non-fiction, news, technical reports, etc. I listen to good music and Katy Perry. I watch art films and dumb comedies. It doesn't have to be an either/or thing. If you find that you don't relate to a person's interests and that lack of relating makes it hard for you to feel connected to them, then don't date them. If someone assumed that I wasn't doing much of my life because I play more than an hour of a video game a week, I'm not interested in having a relationship with them either.

So I guess what OP is saying, ladies, is that if you start playing video games you will open up an entirely new population of men to date you!!! Win!!
