Everyone does it a little differently. In my college years, I may have used Aunt Jemima butter flavour a time or two.
I usually add a pinch or two of cinnamon too, just because I always find maple a little too "much" (I know, unCanadian)
The syrup will freeze/ ticket to a soft taffy, and then you just kind of roll it up off the snow with your Popsicle stick. Kebab sticks work great too (obviously remove or cover the sharp ends if they are very little people)
Paleo style: just eat the snow
Either way, you must eat too much, and complain about it.
