Cannot believe there are adults justifying this. Having a small party is fine. Having a small party break off after a larger party is absolutely ridiculous. No manners whatsoever.

What I think is incredibly rude is the host saving the birthday cake for the sleepover. What, the other guests aren't good enough for cake?!

It's really rude to invite only a few kids to spend the night after, no matter how much you tell them not to talk about it. Of course it gets out. Honestly, where are your manners? It's terrible behavior.

+1001 I don't care about the sleep over but saving the cake for a selected few is rude.

I think it is mean and a "gift grab". Just invite fewer kids to sleepover. Don't make kids feel like there is a big list and then a "VIP" list. How would anyone like to be on the non-VIP list.

This happened to us about nine years ago ( DC is now 17) The house was big enough and they were wealthy enough to host everyone overnight. My daughter was the "B" list and although we did get pizza and cake we had to leave at a certain time so the other party could start. Parents were also invited btw. While my daughter was hurt because the other kids talked about it and she felt badly she wasn't on the "A" list. I didn't entirely trust the parents to watch them I was glad she was not invited to the sleep over. I agree with you OP. I think it is mean spirited and rude but it is a lesson in life and it made my kid more sensitive to others.

Sleep over for a few is fine. Having pizza and cake for sleep over guests is fine. But having the cake at the party for all to see but only sharing it with a selected few = rude. Talking about only some of the kids sleeping over and getting pizza = rude. So rude, in fact, that I wonder how this all went down....seems like some details are missing.

Wow, that woman is horrible.

We had the opposite party where 6 kids slept over the night before and then 6 more kids were added to the party at 9:30 the next morning. It was definitely weird for the kids who didn't get to sleep over.
