A rare DCUM consensus (apart from the whole odd rape bit); my friend was dumped last January and it was extra painful and confusing that they had spent the holidays having a special time, seeing each others families, etc.

I don't feel bad for your friend. He should have ended it from the first moment he was ready to break it off.

Isn't the season for seeing divorce lawyers right after the holidays and then after Valentine's Day? My neighbor just filed and he did it now so they wouldn't have to go to each family's house and be miserable.

I'm an über liberal. It's already "black letter" law that consent due to "fraud" i.e. I'll marry you, is still valid consent. And I have no problem with that.

Um, I don't make the laws. That's not even slightly the same as the moronic example above. It's a stupid conversation based on a dumb comment above, don't get so bent out of shape.

He should have walked out on her.
He wouldn't have done that to his kid. They at least pretend to be happy now, so there's that.

No idea. He's a good ole southern boy, and wants to give his son a good life and do the "right thing", so I think they'll stick it for a while at least. We don't talk about his marriage.
