Oh, well, I'll sit over with the lazy, disgusting moms. We didn't do onesies and rarely pants because we did EC (although they would be just as big a pain for diaper changes). My kid was literally in her underwear for most of the time until over a year. Granted they were really cute cloth (colored/patterned) diapers that sorta looked like shorts, and her legs were covered with baby legwarmers, but still. If it was cold, snuggly play suit on top. If it was something where I cared, dress. Otherwise, oh, well.

Yes, this!

From birth I have fully dressed my son, especially when leaving the house, in a full outfit (tops bottoms, socks shoes bib) that match.

I look at babies in pants, socks, etc. and think what a nightmare to dress and change. Mine wore zip up pjs for the first year. So easy.

My MIL was surprised by the same. It's generational. But as you say it's also OBE!

My April baby wore a lot of little cotton 1piece shorts rompers his first summer. I thought of onesies as an undershirt, so used them more in cooler months. no judgment, just personal preference.

My son wire onesies without pants for most of his first summer (age 4 months thru 7 mos). So did most of the other babies at daycare.

So please, please share this opinion in real life so I know to avoid you nutjobs.

Hahhaha me too! The mommy wars have reached a new low -- the just a onesie crowd vs those who think a full outfit is needed to preserve the baby's decency.

My June baby was in a onesie all the time, it was too hot out for anything else! Now that it's colder out he spends most of his days in footie pjs. Occasionally I put him in a cute outfit for an putting with friends/family. I had no idea anyone would actually judge what babies wear?!

At home anything goes - just a diaper, a onesie...

But out and about we would throw a one piece outfit or pants on. I would think that's more comfortable while in a stroller or carseat anyway.

I wouldn't blink at seeing a baby in a onesie though.

Why must babies have pants once crawling? My kid gets along fine, pants or no pants. Half the time, she gets up off the changing mat and crawls away before I can get the damn pants on her and forces me to wrestle her while screaming if I absolutely must fully clothe her (if it's chilly outside and we're leaving the house). Seriously, not freaking worth it.

If it was more than a plain onesie they left the house in it. Plain colored onesie, I usually added pants or shorts. I don't know why. Maybe because my oldest is 25, and onesies were considered underwear when he was born. They were under shirts.

I wouldn't think twice about another baby in a onesie though.

what about terry cloth sleepers in colder weather? are those considered an outfit or just pajamas? can i take a 6 month old out dressed like that? (with appropriate outerwear of course)

PP is talking about rompers, not onesies. My college aged nieces had a few -- they're not tight at the bottom like onesies, they have short little shorts attached. Like so: http://www.forever21.com/Product/Product.aspx?BR=f21&Category=Jumpsuit_Romper&ProductID=2000154490&VariantID=

I live in a Midwestern college town, and while I don't have photos, I can attest to the fact that we were overfill with young ladies in shortie jumpers (grown-up onesies) at the beginning of the semester. Usually paired with big sunglasses, a hat, an armful of bangles, and Minnetonkas. They look absolutely ridiculous.
