Please share what private offers advanced mandarin! We are also considering private for MS but would like to continue Mandarin.

You are obviously extremely easily confused. Yes, they are both international schools. But, they don't sound the same at all, and they are both usually referred to by their initials - WIS and DCI - which are very different.
If you visit both schools, as I have, you will know that they are VERY different schools. One is a well established, truly international private school (with a student body that reflects that fact), and the other is an public international school based largely on its IB program. Oh, and one has a FARMS rate of over 50%, while the other costs over $37,000 per year with no discernible poverty. The differences are real and obvious.
The public one is the only one with a Mandarin program, right? The private is for diplo-brats.
Wrong again. Diplo-brats AND Mandarin. Students begin studying Mandarin daily in 6th grade, and they can continue it through high school. With the lack of poverty/experimenting present at DCI, and the financial resources of their parents, I bet the WIS students that pursue Mandarin through high school will end up just as fluent as the DCI (Mandarin track) students. And they're obviosly getting more Mandarin than the non-immersion students at YY.
Yu Ying is the only school around here, public or private, that offers immersion mandarin starting in preschool. PreK3 and preK4 are 100% Mandarin while K and up are 50% Mandarin/50% English. We wanted mandarin immersion starting in preschool and turned down English only private schools to attend. Had no interest in French or Spanish immersion so never applied to WIS.
Starting Mandarin in 6th grade isn't the same and we are a family that can afford WIS. While DC will not be attending DCI, we have been very happy with the program at Yu YIng. We will move and we plan for DS to attend a private school that offers advanced Mandarin in middle school.

Whether it's a WIS parent or not, the poster in question seems to have hit a few nerves. It's pretty clear that no one can start making claims that DCI is "just like a private school--only free ." The only thing that DCI has in common with WIS is the IB program--and that's in name only.

Oh yeah for sure the previous poster was not a WIS parent. Seriously WIS has a lot of problems. First of all, it's almost impossible to get in the Spanish immersion program. Secondly, they will go after you vigorously if you decide to pull your kid. You owe them the full year of tuition, and they will sue you for it. Third, it's really expensive, and it's not all that clear you can't get a better education elsewhere for less money from a more prestigious school. Or you could send your kid to DCI and have them learn Mandarin, Spanish, or French for free. It's not the same as a free private school, but I don't think WIS is 37,000 dollars better either. That's just my opinion though.

This thread is about DCI, and I believe it's great folks will have that option. Let's see if DCPS wakes up and delivers a great and bilingual/ multilingual High School...isn't something supposed to happen at Roosevelt?
Somebody compared DCI to WIS on page 1. On page 2, a DCI poster stated that DCI was the only school in town that offered Mandarin in an IB program. I'm paraphrasing because the entire thread has hit the skids, but that's the gist of why WIS is being mentioned.

With a 52% FARMS rate, DCI is literally the poor man's WIS.

Hello, have you heard that Capitol Hill Day School and Capitol Hill Montessori are different schools? I was positive that they were one and the same until someone showed me which one contained the poors. It's pretty obvious that Capitol Hill Montessori is just trying to pretend to be Capitol Hill Day school. The differences between the two schools are both real and obvious.
