Visited Duke's campus and UNC, much to my surprise, unc seemed much more attractive. What did I miss? Duke seemed like an office park built around a handful of gothic buildings.

We lost complete respect for Duke after two kids we know got in who in my estimation were community college material...sickening! Duke is known for being able to be bribed quite easily.
Duke doesn't have a monopoly on that kind of admission. You must be sickened by every college in the country, LOL!! Even your most conservative colleges, religious and otherwise, cut some slack here and there.


The price of bribing Duke is a lot lower (they are willing to cut more slack academically for seven figure check than the ivies would've).
You don't have to go to Duke or even think about it. The rest of us do. Don't concern yourself.

Duke is a very good school. Of the good schools DC will apply to (including Duke), they all have something that could use improvement. There is just no perfect college. It just doesn't exist, but you can shoot for the best fit possible.

Why would you "despise" Duke? That seems kind of bizarre. It's a college. You don't have to have anything to do with it if you don't like it.
