Think about how different DC and DCPS are in 2015 versus 2000. No-one knows what will happen in 2030 but you can bet that the city and its schools will look very different from today. This is a rapidly changing city, and 15 years is a lifetime in DCPS.

For example, shortsighted posters on DCUM assume that the Deal/Wilson boundaries will be the only big issue in the next boundary review, but I bet it will revolve around more fundamental issues like coordination with charters.

I'm always amused that people think it's so easy to swing the cost of an independent education. That "$100K profit" would be gone in 3 years for one child, or in 1.5 years if you have two children.

Put another way, if a couple has two kids, then either mom or dad has to make an extra $100,000 every single year to pay tuition. That's not so easy, or certain. I say that as someone who experienced that the hard way, when the employment picture changed unexpectedly.

I can't believe anyone would sell in Shepherd Park and move to Brightwood. Takoma, maybe but not Brightwood. And if you have elementary kids why would you give up Deal/Wilson?

Under current rules, if their kids are in Shepherd now, they can move, stay enrolled in Shepherd and continue thru Deal and Wilson.

Technically Pp is correct, the boot after current year after moving doesn't start until next year so now it's still principal discretion. Still, PP would be living in Brightwood. I have lived there and never advise anyone to live there above Shepherd Park unless cost was an issue.
