It's for people who have aged out of Anthropologie.

I'm in my 50s and I like SS, mainly because, like the pp pointed out, it reminds me of my favorite styles from the late 80s early 90s. They do tend to run large however, so your have to really pay attention to measurements.

I am in my late 50s and read the SS catalog as geared to people *at least* my age. In truth, I often find some of what's in there appealing, in a way that calls back to the way we dressed as teenagers in the late 70s-80s, with flowing Indian cotton skirts etc. I know women a decade older than myself, mostly not in DC but out west, who totally dress like this. I have ordered from them once, a velvet top for a holiday party, and the order was so delayed (long pre covid) that I gave up on them.

I live overseas currently wear it is extremely hot and modesty is helpful, so I have some SS skirts. I think of them as the middle age version of the broomstick skirt I had in college.

I think your mom is totally projecting her style onto you, and I'm sorry. That has got to be uncomfortable. PP mentioned Motherchic and The Mom Edit. Those are both fairly well-known mom influencers that you could direct your mom to in order to see how a lot of 40-somethings are dressing these days. I've never even heard of Soft Surroundings until now.

It’s not all bad and I could probably find something to buy as a person in my mid-30s. But it definitely skews toward a more mature crowd. My aunt (age 75) loves this kind of stuff. I think it looks pretty good on her because I feel like the alternative for senior citizen women is basically novelty sweatshirts with matching sweatpants.

I think Soft Surroundings is for the 65+ crowd. The former hippies who like flowing fabrics and lots of floral prints.
