Sewanee has gotten a lot more competitive in recent years (went from 60 percent acceptance rate to 30).
They have a goal of gradually increasing the size of the student body from around 1100 to 1800.
They have taken several of their club sports into D3.
They are building new facilities including some awesome dorms.
They are hiring new faculty.
They cleaned up this year in terms of students getting Fulbrights. They have also traditionally done very well with Rhodes scholarships.
Their main drawback is that they are in the middle of nowhere and people drink too much. However, next year they're not going to allow freshmen to have cars on campus and this will necessitate their creating a shuttle that goes to Chattanooga. This will hopefully have the effect of having more kids go into town on weekends to have lunch, etc. rather than just drinking all the time.
If you like Washington and Lee, you will like Sewanee.
Traditionally, 90 percent of students have joined fraternities but it appears that they are now cracking down on/seriously looking at the frat culture. Two of them are currently on probation and as they expand it's possible this will become less of the only game in town in terms of social activities. (However, they are not like traditional Southern sororities and fraternities in the sense that your parents have to have belonged, etc.)
It would be nice if they had more international students, etc.
Our child was a diversity admit there and it's still not nearly as diverse as it could be.
Our son says it's also getting a lot more liberal as it is attracting more northerners.

Sewanee is ramping up u see the current president who was head of Middlebury for many years. The school is increasing the number of students, beefing up facilities and has a goal of getting stronger recognition outside of the South.
