I would say that by the time your child is in high school it should be okay, as these kinds of things start to be more prominent.

My 13 year old (8th grade) has played it in the media center before school. He says kids play during lunch too.

Hmm. I always think CAH feels like a space in which it’s acceptable to make jokes you normally can’t and that it’s a valuable way to release a lot of the tension and anxiety we may feel about the world around us. It’s a little like how doctors or police officers will make inappropriate jokes as a coping mechanism for the difficulties of their professions.

No! My crazy sister gave the game to my husband for Christmas and warned him not to play in front of our preteens. Thank God! It is awful!

Ugh.

Why do YouTube videos have to circumvent everyrhing...?

I block YouTube for a variety of reasons.

Our tweens/teens have played with a modified deck. I remove all the sex-based cards, and we all play with the rest of the deck. I buy expansion packs and do the same. I would not be thrilled if my 12 yo were playing with the full deck.

Not Parent Approved is CAH for kids. Highly recommended.

I won't let my 12 yr old play because he's still playing with Legos and action figures. Clearly he's still too innocent for this game.

to be honest, even at 16 I bet there would be cards that I didn't 100% understand! Not many but at least a couple.

I think its most definitely in the "for adults" camp. I feel like college would be the most appropriate entry TBH. I wouldn't bar my late HSers from it or anything but its not really "appropriate" for them either. Heck, the whole point is that its inappropriate!

I agree that it should be 16+ and they will not get a ton of the things. Hell in my mid-20s I had to urban dictionary a lot of things.

I just created a Cards Against Humanity alternative for teens (and anyone else who doesn't want to tarnish their soul) ; )

It's called SICK (Slightly Inappropriate Cards For Kids) and it's just edgy enough that tweens and teens feel like they're getting away with something...but still hilarious enough that they keep playing it again and again.

We're in the Kickstarter phase right now. Order your copy of SICK today at bit.ly/GetSICK .

Thanks!?

OP, it doesn't sound like you know what kind of game Cards Against Humanity is. If you are ok with your kids making "That's what she said" jokes, go ahead.

How old are your kids? What's their reaction to some of the cards like the "dick fingers" mentioned by a PP?

12, 16, and 22. My 8 year old niece has "played" it (really, attempted to sit in on one game and got bored within about 5 minutes) as well, if an anecdotal reaction from a younger child is useful to you in any way.

The 12 year old wasn't particularly interested after the first round or two mostly because she didn't understand all the references and having someone explain them kind of took most of the fun out of the game for her.

The 16 year old and 22 year old both enjoy the game.

I don't necessarily think this is the best game for OP's listed age group, primarily because in my limited experience kids that age might not really enjoy it. However, to answer the question I see no problem with them playing it at any age and would be fine with explaining any questions it caused them to have.

I completely agree.
