I flew first class to Hawaii from LAX last year on a glitch or something... I used points for business class but got put into the first seat of first class. I was traveling with all very good looking people like hot moms and well dressed kids. I remember looking over at a 6 year old who had Tods loafers on and a mini iPad with beats.

New poster here. Yes, the IMF/WB pay for business class for home leave, but you don't have to use it. My family always flies economy and saves the 20k difference (for 4 people).

Another NP. We do exactly the same: fly economy and invest the difference (or use it to prepay our mortgage). I flew business only once when I used my husband's miles accumulated during his business travel.

Global services, so I only see coach on random non status airlines. HHI $1m but I only pay for 1st/business on international (well, company pays).

I do not pay first class fares for personal travel (I do fly in paid business class for business travel). As a PP said, status and points, baby (and sticker upgrades).

I should also say I did this prior to marriage too when my income was only $43,000.

i upgrade to business/first for personal travel, if there is an option to do so. like others, i travel often for work so upgrades are usually inexpensive.

If it's more than a 1.5 hour flight I always fly first. I'll switch flights / airlines if first is sold out for longer flights.

HHI $650k but almost every ticket is paid with Amex points.

I got bumped to first once last year for reasons unknown to me. It ruined me. It wasn't even that long of a flight, only 2.5 hours. But I am truly ruined. And then I started googling what international business/first look like. Destroyed.

I am negotiating for a new job right now and one of my requirements is business class on all flights overseas. The company had to make an exception for it (normally they require the person to travel 75k miles/year for the company to get that). It just totally changes the experience.

I fly first class to Hawaii to see my family a couple of times a year. If you book a few months in advance and choose a less popular time, you can save a lot. Our HHI is 1M+.
