That's kind of the point, the OP is incoherent, messy, and all over the place. If making or not making partner is not an issue, why bring it up? All she is trying to describe is that her relatives are showy with their money, yet she references all these tangential facts. I can't imagine reading an opinion from her on a more complicated subject.

While no one expects a polished and grammatically perfect post on an Internet forum, these posts do reflect the author's thought process.

I make way more than my brother. Two years ago I was driving with him in my 10 year old car when the hood flew up and cracked the windshield. Every time I talk to him since then he makes a comment about how he can't believe I am still driving the same car--now 12 years old and, yes, windshield and hood repaired. What can I say? I'm attached.

Yes and they shut up when I say "are YOU buying me xyz, that's what I thought" Works like a charm!

Some of the same ones talking about me are barely making it themselves.

OP, we are somewhat in your situation.

The only difference is that our relatives and friends who are into an ostentatious lifestyle know that we are actually very well off. So there is more of a tendency by them to make comments about how we are loaded though we don't show it. When they make such comments, we either play it down or just change the subject. Once in a while we actually do something that they deem as "living in line with our wealth" - and this seems to affirm for them that we are well off. We don't do it to impress them but because it is something that we want for ourselves.

We are not into designer products at all whether it is clothes or other apparel.

OP's writing is absolutely fine. Give it a rest. Why is there so often some weirdo who tries to derail a thread in this manner?

OP, as far as your relatives go, let it be like water off a duck's back. Live how you want to live and save how you want to save. Their judgment is meaningless.
