She didn't get a piercing or tattoo, probably just wanted to try it and see what happened. A girl I knew dyed her hair a new color every 2 months for awhile. She evenually settled on a color!

Why are you letting your mother dictate your haircuts? You're 33. If you want to cut your hair, cut your hair. No need to be a bitter bitch.

It is hair...she didn't get a tat or anything permanent...ensure everything is good, and let her live her life.

Given all of the changes that are happening, when she gets back home, you may want to solicit the support of a family counselor.

I trust you have a great relationship - but sometimes professionals are able to help in ways that busy parents can not.

I did this, the summer between HS and college. It was definitely part of the big changes happening in my life, and feeling that I needed to both assert my independence and do something bold to take control/mark the transitions that were happening. Unfortunately for me, I could not pull the look off- I was hoping for Mia Farrow and looked like a 12 yr old boy instead. No big deal, I grew it out and moved on. I will always be envious of young, cute girls who can pull off a pixie cut. I really love the idea of it, just not on me.
